Bird's Wildlife & Nature

Java

TRIP REPORT

The island of Java in Indonesia was our destination for 6 days prior to leading another tour to West Papua. The city of Jakarta is huge, sprawling and overwhelming. The waterways and coast are polluted yet still hold a good variety of birds including several very special ones such as Milky Stork and Christmas Frigatebird. Once we were away from the huge city we found wonderful area of remote mountain forests with very few people and both amazing wildlife and scenery. The people were all super friendly and it was delightful birding with our local guide and a fabulous team. There was only one area that involved a long uphill forest trek, while the rest of the areas visited involved little walking a pretty much easy birding. One highlight was a hide positioned to see the fabulous Javan Banded Pitta, while day roosting frogmouths was another great highlight. We saw many endemics and special birds and mostly had fantastic views of everything. With great guides, great food, super accommodation and amazing wildlife we look forward to our new tour to this wonderful country.
